Some people have stickier mud and a better aim

I’ve previously posted that learning things is, more often than not, like covering a wall with mud.

It takes time.

Only some sticks.

But, eventually, enough of the lesson will stick and the wall of discovery will be covered.

But, there’s another element to the wall analogy.

You need sticky mud.

You need good aim.

For some, the mud distributor will be more effective than for others.

This is why you change teachers over time.

For, the way some teachers communicate their lessons will particularly resonate with you.

Their mud, for you, will be particularly sticky.

Furthermore, the method some teachers use to explain concepts will connect the pieces you’ve already acquired especially effectively.

Their aim, for you, hits in exactly the right spot.

But the principle is still the same.

You learn once the wall is covered.

But, as any minister knows, when an outside voice delivers the same message you’ve been faithfully preaching for years… once a guest is holding the microphone… their mud splatters more effectively and the message hits in exactly the right place.
