I read an excellent meeting idea yesterday.
Medicine balls.
Whenever you are making a point you must do so whilst standing and holding a medicine ball.
Your point must be made before you slouch and collapse in a heap.
Thus, shortening rambling meetings...
Then again... if you REALLY wanted to get your view across you could always get in a strongman to make you point.
Hi Graham
ReplyDeleteGreat idea.
One of the best ordered meetings I ever attended was when there was a deaf person in the room, with someone signing for them. Obviously only one person could speak at once, and everyone had to be considerate of others as they took turns and waited for someone to finish speaking before speaking themselves.
Perhaps your idea can be expanded to have a medicine ball AND a hearing impaired person!

Sue,
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of a story i once read that followed the same train of thought.
It's not unusual that oldies say that i talk too fast when i preach.
One site suggested that you should get someone to translate your talk into real-time sign language.
If they can't keep up then you're speaking too quickly.
The other way to slow down what you are saying is to speak in a different language to what the congregation understands. That way you have to carefully think out every sentence in order for it to be translated clearly. The only trade off in this circumstance is that it doubles the amount of time your sermon goes for...
ReplyDeleteThis idea is great.
ReplyDeleteI am now considering the purchase of a medicine ball to leave in the car and take to every meeting I go to. Ever.
